During a time of significant change for OSF HealthCare — amidst recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting 40% growth with expansion in five markets — OSF was able to realize significant savings by embarking on an innovative data intelligence engagement. Through a strategic partnership with Pointcore and TADA Cognitive Solutions, they realized over $108 million in cost savings and exponential efficiency gains.
CHALLENGE
OSF partnered with Pointcore to address operational challenges impacting visibility and performance. Pointcore’s Data Intelligence leaders assessed internal systems and processes across the organization to identify gaps exacerbated by growth, resulting in fragmented visibility. They then aligned the leadership of OSF around a shared strategy and clear path forward. As part of an effort to preserve and improve healthcare, OSF had onboarded five hospital campuses across five markets, leading to growth across all aspects of the health system — namely 67% growth in assets under management, which impacted operations including supply chain, biomedical healthcare technology management and IT. They needed to find a way to drive synergies and efficiencies while building trust and visibility.
SOLUTION
OSF HealthCare partnered with Pointcore to uncover a solution that would help the health system solve their operational challenges. Pointcore’s Data Intelligence leaders reviewed the internal landscape and processes of various operations at OSF and determined that there were gaps exasperated by growth, causing fragmented visibility. They aligned the leaders of OSF around a common goal.
FIRST: The first step in the solution involved assembling a committee to collaborate and focus on the task and the selection of TADA to partner on the effort. HEALTHCARE TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT
In HTM, the department was tackling challenges that are common for any health system but exasperated by the growth of OSF. These efforts included control of asset management and planning due to lack of visibility across the organization, effective capital planning to apply logic and priority to the process, resource forecasting and efficiencies, and data integrity and reporting. The HTM module has driven improvements including early successes.
SUPPLY CHAIN
In supply chain, efforts to find ways to improve the operational aspects of contracting and procurement are underway, projected to deliver value through improvements in operations that were untapped with existing processes and ERP systems.
An example of operational impact for the organization from the Supply Chain module was in improvements from being able to set parameters that allow for “target opportunities” to rise to the top. This effort resulted in a reduction in analytical functions associated with searching for opportunities to standardize spend directed towards non-approved sources and products. Additionally staffing levels were able to be maintained despite 67% growth in assets and 40% growth in markets served.
