ICU Expansion, OSF HealthCare Saint Mary Medical Center

Overview

Pointcore supported Saint Mary Medical Center in a phased ICU expansion to meet increasing demand for both critical care and respiratory support. In Phase One, we built out respiratory support spaces, including a meds room, vent storage, a break room and office areas, so the hospital could respond immediately to rising respiratory needs. In Phase Two, we expanded the ICU from six to nine patient rooms, adding ante rooms, patient toilets, a nurse station, equipment storage, a monitor room and staff offices.

To accommodate new systems, we replaced the air handling unit with a modular 8,000 CFM Trane unit and upgraded ductwork, chilled water piping, humidifiers, and exhaust systems. We also secured a temporary Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) occupancy certificate for the respiratory spaces so patient care could begin without delay. Throughout the project, we managed design coordination, scheduling, risk and cost, all while minimizing disruption to hospital operations.
